DhD Audio (USA)

Well im looking for feedback from someone who has used these amps.. had them fail or had experiences with them.

Just researching some stuff for a guy whose jumped into the world of Car Audio recently (business).

not good, but servicable on a budget.

They're an American Hifi brand, sibling of...

American Pro

Volfenhag

Phoenix Digital

Performance Teknique

Probably a couple others I'm forgetting.

I have owned a couple of their products in the past.

I had a Am Pro amp temporarily (vs1405 can still be found through google). It worked ok. Never gave me any problems, but pretty significantly over-rated as you would expect.

I also bought a DHD amp for my boat (same series as the amp on the home page). It's on ampguts if you want to take a look. Surprisingly nice looking board. It's been a great budget amp. Plenty of power to drive a couple tower speakers, and reliable in an unwelcoming environment for an amp.

Thanks n2audio, those are the sort of response's that help.

When you say siblings of the aforementioned brands do you mean they are just rebadged/rebranded but use the same boards?

Did you drive speakers... if so which ones and how are the noise filtering capabilities?

I don't think there's anyway to know if the relationship between ANY sibling companies is that close. I only know american hifi owns them all. I would guess there are some strong similarities in at least some of the products company to company.

The AP was on a cheap 10, and it was a long time ago. All I know is the LP did what it was supposed to do.

The DHD is bridged running a pair of Bazooka "tubbies": http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_2871_Bazooka+Wakeboard+Tubbies+MT8002B+-MT8002BS-.html

The HPF is set way down near its min, 50-60hz, and the sound is great. With just those two speakers on the tower we can hear it clearly while we're boarding. I think that amp would compare favorably with most any lower level name brand 50x4 amp -- Fosgate punch, Pioneer GM, JBL GT etc.

I believe DHD and Volfenhag are pretty much the same with a different brand on them. I owned a pair of Volfenhag 12" subs and swapped them out for a pair of DHD and the construction of the subs was very much the same except the DHD had ribbed surround. One of the Volfenhags had a minor MFG defect with the pole not being completely straight so the cone would rub on the voice coil during excursion. Other than that I think it is a good bugdet brand, decent bang for the buck. I hit 139.0 dB with the two 12" DHD subs powered by a Volfenhag 1800 watt amp. Enough to take first place in my class at that particular competition.

I ran a friends DHD amp on a pair of volfenhags at 1 ohm in a buddies celica. Heated up quickly and would go into protect. But it was also at 1 ohm. When ran at 2 ohms it seemed fine.

I have been running a dhd "1000x4" 4 channel amp (for 4 JBL component speakers) for over a year now and it has not failed me yet. i really been beating on it.

All their printed ratings are peak, not RMS. I guesstimate 400x4 rms out of my amp.

I know a guy who is running a similar size DHD amp for his subs and his shit sound good, his only complaint is alternator whine. I also had alternator whine with my DHD 4 channel but that was eliminated with a ground loop isolator.

And i wont lie, the amp looks cheezy to me. but what the hell does that matter if the shit sound good, crisp and clear.

If you do get the DHD, let us know if you hear any alternator whine. I'm curious if its a problem or a coincidence.

Thanks for all the responses fella's. Im researching on behalf of a friend, he will sign up shortly and come along and let you know what this is all about //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Cheers!

Dont Kno If U Decided Yet But Bak In 2005 I Had A Dhd 2009 Series Amp(1000 Watt) Pushing 2 12 Kicker Comp Vr With A Pioneer Deh-p7200 Head Unit....man That Thing Pounded Drove My Vr Great...always Kept Volume On 21 Anything Higher Than That Gave Me A Headache

strangly enought i have used them, and was highly impressed for the money... back on around 05 i had one of the 100x2s like 400@4ohm mono wired to 2 ohm mono and it was pretty **** strong.. if your on a serious budget there decent...
