DeWalt Sucks

You know... my girlfriend bought me a 18V Black and Decker drill for graduation (I like the way she thinks!) But right before she gave it to me, I bought a Craftsman 19.2V drill...

I figured that I'd use my Craftsman as a primary, and the B&D as a secondary... Well after a couple weeks, the Craftsman's battery took a dump on me, and won't hold a charge for more than an hour when in use. I've been using the B&D for the past year, and the battery will hold a charge for much longer... it typically lasts for 3 boxes' worth of building. Just one battery! Not only that, it has more torque, its faster, which is nice for drilling, and it has a detachable chuck.

The detachable chuck is possibly my favorite thing about it... I put a drill bit in the chuck, and then under the chuck, it's got a place where you can snap in a screwdriver bit.... so I can get a countersinking bit, and drill the hole, then pop the chuck off (it only takes the push of a button) and put the screw in. It is very, very handy and quick.

I know that most people think of B&D as crap tools, but I can honestly say that I love mine.

Oh, and I used my buddy's dewalt while I was installing, and it felt like a friggin toy. I hated it.

You guys should also stay away from NiCD batteries. They will have a memory and will not hold a charge very well if you constantly charge them at 1/2 capacity.

NiMH batteries not only have more power, but they have no memory.

Yes they cost more, but would you rather get a dinky 600a battery or a big ole 1200a battery if they were the same size...

I work in construction and beat the hell out of my 18v Dewalt tools. Sawzall, drill, impact driver..you name it. You guys must have some bad luck. I love my Dewalt stuff.

I had a black and decker drill die maybe a month ago after 10 + years of use and abuse.A few years ago the original cord came disconnected inside, fixed that and never a problem until last month.Cord got yanked out, and then the rebuild didn't go so well.

That's all I have to contribute to this thread.

Hitachi: Drills, Pneumatic staplers/brad nailers, etc.

Bosch: BEST JIG SAWS EVAR. Hands down.

Makita: Drills, good Jigs, great lightweight drills that are still powerful.

Ridgid: Great drills, really take a beating, really powerful.

My choices!

As soon as Milwaukee came out with their V28 line of power tools (28 volts -lithium ion), I sold all of my bigger (18v) Dewalt power tools and bought the Milwaukee combo kit. I haven't looked back since....
