just looking for something nice to have with my laptop, so no monitors or anything like that...

looking for something that has good range and depth...nice low side, no nasty noises...i have a small set of klipsch right now, and they are ok, but dont really sound the way i would like...

also not looking for a big setup, i would like to be able to travel with them...

well anything in the $200 range is fine...i just dont want to lug around 10 speakers for my laptop to setup in a hotel...if i was gonna do that i would just carry around an interface and some mackies or my yamahas..

I dont know what you consider too big to carry around with you, but NewEgg sells M-Audio PC speakers, and they have an excellent reputation in the small monitor field.

i have some studio headphones, some real top notch buds and some other misc pairs, all with their own positives and negatives...but i just cant stand to listen to headphones for more than an hour or so, after doing music for so long your ears just start giving up...

Well to be totally honest you are not going to get quality equal to your headphones with out buying some studio boxes or something of the like...

You might have the best thing that you can get now...

It sounds like you need better headphones, I have no problem listening to my Senns for extended periods of time.
i doubt that is the case, i have about $2000+ invested in headphones, i have some audio technica's, some ultrasones, some sony mdr's and some m-audio reference buds...its not the quality...its being able to have something up to my ears for that long...after awhile my ears get tired, and start to sound clouded...its from mixing down tracks and performing live for a long time...its messed up my ears...

i wasnt really looking for audiophile type sound, just good enough sound which is pleasing as well as convenient, something that i could turn up pretty loud without getting horrid distortion...im going to keep looking around...
