Dell laptops.. Worth the price...

sony is good, they replaced my moms laptop 2 times, one for coffe spilled, another is for the screen broke...to bad for no more warrenty, the screen's hindge is starting to brake and the hdd is messed up...

and that thing can get hot

I just went through the process and with everything at the basic laptop $650

Add xp pro vs media center (which I used and hate, especially on a laptop) with reinstall cd (in case anything happens and you aren't ****ed out of luck) + 160

add anti glare screen +20

add intel proset wireless (vs dell wireless which is broadcom and sucks) +50

add the best battery +90

We're looking at $986

4 yr warranty that covers everything? 427

4 yr accidental warranty? 120

a $650 laptop just became 1,532

That's NOT a deal....

$547 of the increase is warranty though.. not really fair... most laptops out there arent going to have a 4 year total coverage warranty... plus why put a $547 warranty on a $650 laptop!

4 yr warranty with either debbie downer:eyebrow:
That's why I went with the 4 yr warranty.

I chose XP Pro because I can't stand media center. It belongs on a media pc, not a laptop. $160 is the "dell" price difference between Media Center and Pro.

Just showing the cost of their warranty. A quality laptop should last you longer than the 4 year warranty with out any problems (sans batteries).

Well now that ppl are saying bad stuff about media center after i picked one out... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif .. Take a look at this toshiba.. This is the one im leaning towards if i dont get the dell.. And starting with a base e1705 and building it to almost exact specs of the toshiba/warranty etc .. the dell came out to around 300 more than the toshiba

But let me know how this one looks

Meh, it's okay. I don't like toshibas because for the most part, they're harder to work on and have terrible online support - at least for the models I've worked on.

Just make sure whatever you get comes with either an XP cd or a restore cd.

How much is either? And would i have a better bet of ordering online from toshiba with a toshiba warranty ? or just get the same computer at Best Buy with there 3 yr warranty? I believe the warranties are the same .. accidental damage water damage etc etc .. And any ideas on how much vista will cost since that will be whats going in when it comes out wether i have XP pro or media center

wtf ?? Am i just this stupid or is it a lil confusing

Toshiba says it runs an intel core duo....

dell says it runs intel core 2 duo...

Are they the same or is the toshiba not the better chip??//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

If you order, get it directly from toshiba. BB pc guys are about the same level as their mobile install guys, shitty.

Just make sure no matter what you do, always make backups. If anything happens and you have to take your computer anywhere, chances are you'll get it back with the origional software and everything you have wiped clean.

as to core duo vs core 2 duo, I believe core duo is dual core 32 bit where core 2 duo is dual core 64/32 bit. Unless you're running a 64-bit os, you're not going to notice ANY difference between the core2duo or the coreduo

Vista will be several hundred dollers. I think last time I checked, the non-basic version was around 350-400 bucks. You don't want Vista Basic. It has all of the pretty stuff cut out. Also, if you're getting Vista when it comes out, MAKE SURE you have 1gb of ram and the intal 950 graphics or higher, or descrete (ati/nvidia) graphics. Otherwise, you'll be stuck in non-pretty mode.
