Dell laptops.. Worth the price...

Dell has great Price vs. Quality.

I myself am looking to get an E1505 but I am contemplating whether I want it now with the current coupons or wait a little more til a good deal comes around.

You really don't need Core 2 Duo, unless you really need the 64-bit processor. Other than that, you'll notice minimal, if any, improvements over the Core Duo processor.

Sony is way overpriced with their Vaio's. Your mostly paying for their name when you go with them as you'd probably save $500+ with same configurations, Sony vs. Dell. They might have a slightly better build quality but their price definetly doesn't justify it.

The two main manufacturers I would look at is Dell and HP.

dell anything is disgustingly shitty. really low quality - stay away like the plague.
i have a dimension 8250 4 yrs old or so and its been great so far.. But I know laptops are a different story, thats why im looking for something of good quality, even tho im not going to be playing many games( if any) I still will be streaming video, Dl quite a bit and want good quality.. Noones said anything about the intel 2 duo.. Is it worth the $400 to upgrade or what exactly does it do over a pentium 4?? Sorry for all the questions, but i just want to make sure i get the right computer.. For around $1,000 or so

Most of the dell inspirons come with core Duo's but if the core 2 duo will make a big difference, or benefit me in the long run, i'd probably just get it.. .. Only reason im looking at the E1705 is the bigger screen which i think can be had w core duo and a 80GB hd for around 900.. core 2 duo and a 120 GB for around 1500.. Sony, or HP from what ive seen dont even run core duo..? Or do they?? And are they set up for vista??

I have a I9300.. great machine if its for use at home.. dont get a 17" if you like plan on really bringing it to class and shit.. its huge.. great for around home.. not real portable.

keep checking like fatwallet.com and notebookforums.com for coupons and shit and you will eventually come out way ahead.

I'm having reliability issues with my Dell three years after I got it...power connector went bad, so don't skimp out on the warranty //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif And I checked on prices of AC adapters...they want $300 for a power cable? WTF? It's just a 19.5V @ 8A supply, yet they charge $300 for it. I don't know if other companies **** you like that or not.

Also, my laptop weighs close to 10 pounds ,so I echo faulkton's comments - you will get a nice workout though if you carry it around a lot //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Remember, buy as much computer as you can afford. If you can afford the Duo, then get it.

> Resale also.

Love my Dell b130.

U need the ext. warranty (on dell's) if only for peace of mind.

And if you just need it for internet only puroses You listed, then any laptop will do.

I have a cheap gateway M3215 for internet only and my music. It was $430 bucks two years ago and is still fine for the same purposes as I originally bought it for. Now that same computer is still under$500.

As long you go with a dedicated graphics card (ati or nvidia) and get about 1GB+ ram, then you will be all set with Vista.

By the way, HP does have Core 2 Duo shipping in their notebooks now.

Yea, I was trying to break it to him easy

BTW: apple's are like that hot chick you always wanted. she looks smokin, but when you get her, she's just like all the other's (basically)

as far as the duo goes well see how it pans out ( $$ wise) And how much is the ext warranty on the dells...

And as far as the Best buy brands goes sony, oshiba hp .. Everyone loves/ and or hates them.. so i guess its all personal pref..

On that note what are top 5 things you want to have on ur PC .. ( processor, memory etc )

if you do buy a dell... MAKE SURE YOU PAY THE $10 FOR A XP DISK... iirc they dont come with a copy of XP anymore unless you pay $10 for it..

Worth it.. cuz the first thing you should do when you get a dell (or any PC) is wipe the mofo and start fresh.. without all their shit *** bloated crap..

BTW: I just got my mom a B130 about a month ago. You can get those without the Duo, hers just has the Centrino which is excellent, especially for your purposes.

As for top five, that's subjective as well. For me, I look 1st at the processor, then at the RAM, not neccessarily how much it has but how much it will hold.

After that, I think it's all pretty much subjective.

IMO though, I know there are more knowledgeable pc guys on here that might know better.

The ext warranty is If I remember correctly right around $300. Yea that's steep, but as a previous poster stated, that's the price of an AC adaptor---so U C the benefit.
