Just rear ended a 07 ford focus on the way outta school about 20 mins ago and was wondering how much a their rear bumper would cost? Theres no dents in the bumper but theres some white scraps (how much would this cost to repair if they don't replace). The cop said that they usually just replace the bumper if its a newer car (which offcourse with my luck it is).

Also, how much is my insurance going to go up or what can i do to not have it go up. If it helps the cop didn't write an accident report because it was a school cop and the lady who i rear ended was my counselor.

If there's no report, then your insurance will not find out.

This will come out of pocket, and I have no clue (and I doubt anyone here does either) how much that will cost you.

depends on if its the bumper cover, or the bumper assembly.

if it needs a new cover, on an 07 focus, will probably be around $3-$400, plus refinishing time to paint it the color of her car. price depends on the color of the paint. anywhere from $40-$200 for the paint plus the labor time. (usually $40-$60 an hour, depending on the shop and the area. they'll prob charge you 1-2 hours for paint time)

if it needs a new assembly (rear beam, cover, bracketing, harnesses) it can be anywhere from $800-$4000. on a focus though, probably around $1200

(I work in collision repair)

(No figures were exact, I dont have my estimating programs at home. Thats usually what they land about for cheap cars tho)

Sucks for your counselor, at least it wasnt as bad as me. I got rear ended on the freeway at 60 mph while stopped //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Even though the police report wasn't filed I talked to the CHP officer that arrived at the scene for my accident. He said by law all you should do is exchange information. If your counselor doesn't report it to her insurance company and since there is no police report taken it won't affect your insurance. But if she does contact her insurance carrier then it will have an effect and I wouldn't know and I'm assuming it will be difficult to figure out, but id say a few hundred extra bucks for the year would be the cost.

As for a new bumper scenario, it would cost about 400-500 for the bumper (also depends on the vehicle) and however much a body shop wants to charge for labor. It shouldn't cost more than 700 and that might be a high ball, but its better to be prepared than to fall short.

I once rear ended a guy back in '02 and he had a fairly new car, I believe it was an '01 Accord. It ended up having just some marks on his bumper and it cost me $30 to get it fixed, all it needed was buffing and the guy was really nice about it. when he told me the cost I thought I was gonna have to pay 300 somethin, i was surprised but I didnt complain //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

if its just a few scratches on the bumper, they'll probably buff out. if they dont, take the cover to a shop and have them match the paint code, do any body work if necessary and zone paint the areas that were scratched.

= probably about $150

I just hit the side of my garage a couple of days ago in my 06 Civic. I put about a 3 inch dent in it as well as a few long scratches. The bill is going to be about $1200 - $1400. I think replacing the bumper would probably be way cheaper than fixing.

it happened 20 minutes and your first reaction is to consult ca.com?

if it was michigan, you'd be covered under the no-fault law. that car obviously has full coverage and i'm sure she'll have her insurance cover it
