DEH80PRS initial installation questions?

You'd want to have 5 amplifier channels, although I think you could run a pair of tweeters off the internal amplifier on this head unit. You also obviously need a pair of mid-woofers and a pair of tweeters to have something to run active.

I'm trying to learn as much as I can about running active, so please forgive my ignorance. I have the 80prs as well, and am in the process of acquiring the components for my install. Why does one need 5 separate channels to run active, considering the head unit only has three channels for output, running passive or active.

I thought running active was just that you replace the passive xovers with electronic ones, and a channel is dedicated to a range of frequencies. Is there more to it than that?

Sounded freaking amazing for an hour! Then the smoke got let out of my tweeters! Gonna be an expensive learning curve. Its time for an upgrade anyways. Had all the timing, positioning etc perfect was jamming out then I smelled the bandaids. Thought it was my subs at first, nope the cheap alpine type E tweets didnt like it one bit
