This is a simple question with a yes/no answer. Can the internal amp be turned off? I checked several seller pages and Pioneers page and searched but didn't come across any answer either way.

Thanks and merry X-mas

To my knowledge Pioneer does NOT have this feature in any of their decks as of the 04 models. They might have them next year since this is becoming a popular demand for decks right now.

but i kno one thing u have the burr-brown 24but D/A converter

Yes, the 860 has 24 bit burr-brown converters //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

well what about there DEX-PE9
The DEX-P9 has NO internal amp. It has pre-amp outputs and a digital output. No power.

There's no need to turn them off. Just leave the speakers disconnected. Won't hurt anything and doesn't draw much power without a load.

Yes, this is true. However, even if there is no load on the internal amp they will still generate unwanted heat and from reading other posts by you (maylar) I'm sure you know that the cooler the better when it comes to electronics. So anytime I can eliminate some heat I would like to be able to do so. I guess thats my opinion on the subject.

The amount of additional heat from the internal amp will be extremely small. The CD motor will generate more. Just don't short the unused speaker wires //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Every deck I've ever owned had internal amps (keep in mind I used my int. amp once in my 17 years of playing with car audio) ALL of them have run hot. When I finish paying off and installing my P9 I will check and see how hot it gets and if it gets about as hot as my "amped" head units then I'll bow to your wisdom. But I don't think it will.

I'm not trying to split hairs or anything but if more decks are coming with the feature that lets you turn them off and high end decks don't have int. amplification then it must have a distinct advantage wouldn't you agree?
