ordered some deflex pads for my front doors, but today when i removed my none functional comp i realized that i had forgotten theres a bar inside my door right behind the speaker. what can i do about this? i dont think i can squeeze the pads between the door and bar, i think they touch. any ideas?

cut the pad in half...put it on either side of the bar

....depending on how big the bar is

would that work? would it still deflect the waves with the bar in the way? bar is between 1-1.5" thick....big bar.

dont suppose you can hook me up with another alternator could you? 03+ accord v6? ha ha j/k. sold that alt you sold me this summer for 175 which i believe is the same or more than i bought it off you for years ago. thanx again for that deal man.

Its still gonna do some good, especially if the bar isn't any wider than the motor. Ideal no, still worth it in my opinion though. It will add mass to the outer door skin right behind the speaker as well which will help. Deflex pads are cheap...worth a try.

Glad to hear that alt served you well and still got you some money //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

yeah well the bar isnt like dead behind the woofer, its lower. i would say the bottom of the bar is right around the bottom of the comp. would it be possible that the crevace between the pad and bar could catch a wave and throw it back? my bad if that sounds ridiculous, i dont know much about acoustics yet.

yeah i loved that alt man, it took 2600watts like a champ. i just wish they made em that big for accords //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

well i really wanted to avoid the foam because im scared even with waterproofer itll still get wet and reak. thinks its a bad idea to try cuttin the deflex pads?
overkill/ensolite is closed cell foam, wont get soaked at all. and even if use Second skins rattlepad(opencell) its treated with a chemical not to rot

how thick are these foams? i dont have the deepest doors in the world. i do have 1" baffles but it still scares me. i want good air flow to keep the coils cool.

basic overkill(closedcell) or ensolite(closedcell too) is .125" (3.17 mm) overkill pro is 3 times thicker approx.

rattle pad(opencell) is .375

rattle pad is open cell so it can be compressed more and its meant for spots where it doesnt get wet as much.

overkill or ensolite will do a better job you are asking overall in the situation you are in right now. i got rid of a LOT of standing waves using the foam.

wait i dont see how that overkill/ensolite or rattlepad will do anything. isnt it the the ridged shape that deflects the waves not the deadening characteristics? what good would those foams do, theyre flat?

it will filter out the waves absorb them kinda. the deflex pad will probally do a better job but it will only do a better job if its directly behind the driver. i believe its still recommended to use the foam around the deflex pad anyways. you should take the time out tomorrow and call Ant at second skin, he can/will explain things a lot clearer.

madisound says theyll accept returns for up to 45 days so im good if i decide to do that. but i just got some other Q's first.

what would you choose for deadening standing waves: deflex pads, overkill, egg carton foam? please everyone respond so i have an idea of whats most popular

am i supposed to deaden behind the pads/foam? or just around it?

if i chose foam, how much should i use? about as much as a deflex pad? or as much as i can fit in?

well i gotta get some sleep. hope these are answered by tomorrow. thanx guys
