Decreasing gains increases output?

Perhaps, I didnt set my gains right.

But if I were to lower my gains slightly, would my components be able to get louder before bottoming out?

By the way, I have SLC kicks with about 150W going to each side.

I did this as soon as I got them. Perhaps ill try it again but i'll try a few things differently this time.

check the sticky at the top of the amplifiers section, but to answer your question, I believe it should be the opposite

I would think that as long as you're not sending a clipped signal to your speakers (setting your gains too high) that when you increase volume (assuming you aren't going clipped on your headunit volume) you are sending clean, unclipped signal to your amp and therefore the output is "better" and not distorted.
