welp, after 6 months of major competition events, probably about 200 full power burps, and hours and hours of daily driving, my 4hp had an untimely death at 1:12 pm EST .. Using my Adassa Warlord 5kw, I was bumpn along prob about 3/4 volume on some new tracks I downloaded and I heard my sub stop playing - which isnt always out of the ordinary due to the low amount of fusing on it. But then I start smelling smoke, so I think "oh great the amp blew up" - but no - that wasnt the case at all. I pull over and open up the hatch and there was a bit of smoke comming out of the port on the box only....so I thought "oh well, it was about time anyways" ....the smoke started to clear, and I felt the cone with my hand and it was just mildly warm so I just shut the hatch and went on my way.

Well, a few more miles down the highway, I KEEP smelling and seeing smoke come out of the box LONG after it should of stopped, so I pull over and pop the hatch and about 4-7" flames burst out of the back of the truck from the center of the sub. Lucikly I had some bottled water with me to put it out with, otherwise I might of been in more trouble. But after the dousing of the water on the sub, and the thick black smoke and suit running out of it the port, all of the interior of the truck was covered in ash. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

So I commenced to take the sub apart right there on the side of the road, and low and behold, the coil on the sub is just fine - it was the tinsel leads that caught on fire and lead to the demise of the driver. Luckily, I recently bought some spare recones for this, so in the following day's i'll be taking some pictures of the rebuild / recone....(if there is interest that is). But please let me know otherwise I wont bother to post the info. I'll be turning the 4hp into a TC 5200 before your eyes if you all are interested. Anyways, on to the crispy pics! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The speaker was charred, but my Arby's lunch was pretty good.

as you can see the coil is fine, its the spider that went up in flames.

And that is left. Right now I have the bottom half of the sub soaking in some WD40 so i can get it apart (it unscrews apart)....so if you all are interested in my rebuild of it, please let me know and i'll continue this thread. Or you could just make comments on TC's build quality, I wont care either way.

Ive come to the point in my life that blowing up subs is not that big of a deal anymore //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

They should start selling fire extinguishers like USAmps should have with the old vlx400's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

They make reallllly pretty blue flames out the ends.

OMG....TEEEEE CEEEEEE SOUNDZ
maybe they should come with flame retardant cones?
Say what you want about the 12a...Nomex flat cone, baby...the box would catch fire before the cone did //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
