DDz1a or Stetsom 7k?

DD Z1A would be a more reliable amp. Not as much power as the Stetsom, but it will last longer.
where have you gathered that information?????

from what i have heard you better had super beefy electical for the 7k but after that it will push some serious and clean power, both are good, i would go 7k but whatever you choose will be good

Oops, I was thinking of the regular Z1. Z1a for sure. Will last ten times longer than the Stetsom.

once again how do you know this? i would really like to know, if you dont abuse the Stetsom it will do just fine for a long time, not dissing DD they are awesome, just saying
The DD uses a time tested, stable design. The Stetsom 7kd uses two parallel linked 2k5. If one of the boards goes just a bit out of wack, it will blow both or one board. I'll take the Z1A over any Stetsom. I've worked on a 7kd and a DD z1. I haven't got to play with a z1a but I'm sure it's similar to a Z1.

Alot of people have been using Stetsom 7kd amps daily without any problems.

I've had one daily for about 1year so far without any issues.

Once u provide sufficient current to it, it will do the job!

Should be more powerful than the Z1 as well.

I just started working on the Stetsoms so I am not totally up to speed on the design in them yet, but from my impressions so far, I don't think the 7k2d is a 2k5 x 2 linked. I am pretty sure it's drive circuit is just double that of the 2k5d for gate drive current provision reasons and the gates are driven on and off in 4 groups similar to the operation in most Korean Class D's that have 2 output inductors combining the groups down to 1 signal. I may be wrong, will find out, I have a bunch here some with drive problems so I will get to know it well very soon. How did you come to the conclusion that it was 2k5d x 2 linked? Just curious.

If you are talking about the old 7kd (not the 7k2d) then I don't know anything about those yet, I have several here but they just came in today. But also I am pretty sure the design is not very different at all between the two models. Same operation of the output fets and power supply, just different boards, different configs. Will see... The 2k5D, if it only has 1 output inductor only needs half of the drive circuit in the 7k2d to work.

Check the datasheet on the IR2010. It has only 2 outputs to drive with. If your FETs are divided in 4 groups you need 2 x IR 2010 to drive the whole batch correctly. I believe the only reason that they design class D amps with more than 1 output inductor, which is all that is necessary, is because the size of 1 inductor to be able to handle all of the amps power output would not be very small/compact, would not fit inside, and would likely overheat so they make it drive in 4 or 8 groups and use 2 or 4 output inductors correspondingly to combine down/filter all of the output from those groups/banks. I am not an engineer though, so I am not sure about that, but that's my impression from working on them.

Ah, okay. I just got some 7KD's in here but haven't opened them up to look inside. The 10KD is similar to the 7k2d, so I assumed the 7KD was also similar (hence the 10KD, 7KD) guess I was wrong on that one. I knew the 7K2d wasn't like what was being described, that's why I chimed in on that...
