DD 9515 vs Fi BTL 15

i did some reshearch and i have been getting nothing but bias opions i can get a used dd and a new fi for around the same price and my qestion is which one should i get for my system i have a hk4000d and around 4.5 cubes to play with i want which ever one is going to be loud and rip my cavalier apart thanks

I hate these threads.

I choose the DD out of the 2.

Especially since I dislike the non woven tensils on the Fi.

I know Alan isn't a fan of them either.

I have an HK and have used it on one 9515, I have never heard a daily louder ( but this is locally)

A 9515 on an HK will BLOW AWAY a BTL on one of them period!!!! I have used the MTs/BTL before. They were nowhere near my 95...

deffinatly the dd, all ive used for yrs now jut upgraded and am waitin for my 9518g.... go dd.....llol....

depending on music tune to 40ish its good for most peopes tastes or just listen to dd's site recomendations......

this is from Zeuslicious who owns a 9515 with the F motor and a 15" fully loaded btl (as well as countless TC motors lol, and actually I own his btl now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ). both were off the same power (memphis 4kw), same box, and same car.

Thanks Guys, This Sub is Loud and it goes Low even with this box: 3.5cf @33Hz and 67.5 Sq". I'll try to build another one 5cf @32Hz later. I'm just fixing some details in my new box which is 3.3cf @33Hz and 72 sq" the difference will be that the new one is firing up and the port to the back, lets see wich one sounds better with the 15's That I have.
I'll try to install the 4hp this weekend or next week, I can't wait to heard it.

My car is an Eclipse 00 and the port is 5" close to the back and yeah! my car hates me lol. Car is full of Second skin. Sounds good but there's some rattling, It's not easy to eliminate it with this big toys, they are doing some damage to the car.

I'll be trying to get more then 8 cf for the next box, 6 after displacement will be cool.

Definitly BTLs FTW... DD too . First time that I switch the subs I was like wow! Because I really feel it louder and lower than the DD, personally I couldn't stand it in the car more than a 1 minute at that volume, it made my ears hurt. Actually the sub stared to smelll lol. That night my head hurt like hell, I don't know what it was but I think that it was the loud sound that made it hurt.

I'm gonna be honest, I like the FI better because is low & loud to the ear. I have my reasons to think that the DD is loud to the Mic. Another thing is that I need to play more with the sub, the gains, etc. cause I haven't had time.

Now, there's other factors that I know can make a difference, thast's why I don't want to say this one is better than the other. For instance the load: DD was .8 Ohm Dcr and the Btl is 1.4 Dcr. I found a different one when I was testing the DD, the Volts dropped at 11.5 at times. Because I was only using one battery in the trunk and that battery was tested @ 1280 CCA, right now with the Btl I have 2 Nsb90 that were tested @ 1920 CCA each, now the volts never go below 12.2. and there's some more little things like that, that make a difference. Anyways I might be reconing my DD to try it again.

btw, reason for reconing his DD was because he noticed the coil was starting to rub. this was also on a brand new recone on the FI. they get a lot more low end as they start to break in

I say DD.. the BTL tinsels are fragile (so i've read).. I got a great price on my DD and im happy with it.. at 41hz I still get low but not they lowest I have heard.. but they higher toned bass will blow your ears off!!

have to thought of maybe doing hdc3?

from what i understand the tinsel issue was caused by getting bad tinsels. the pices was soldered and there was no core, and it was just the "jacket" thing that was soldered on to the terminals. so if you went over the mechanical limits of the driver one time, it would break the "lead".

i had a tinsel issue, but it was caused because i had 1 tinsel that was too short (during recone, tinsel was cut to short before solder). replaced the tinsels and have had no issues to date.

im not defending the BTL, trying to say the DD sucks. as DD didnt build a name for itself out of thin air. im sure its a quality driver, i just cant give a full on recommendation for a driver i have no experience with.

as well as I cant knock the BTL, since i have never used one.. I knew the Tinsel issue was prevelant at one time.. Im glad you cleared that up for me.. That issue is resolved i hope.. only complaint I have about my DD is not really related to the woofer..

Fi said it was corrected pretty quickly once they found out what was going on.

btw, what is the complaint with the DD? im assuming the lowend?

the fs is very high on dd's woofers. now, that doesnt mean that they CANT drop low, but they will have a harder time doing it cleanly. i do prefer the dd subs out of those 2 (when going for spl) and the btl (for "daily" listening), but scott is a hell of a great guy, i cannot say the same thing for jassa (not saying hes bad, ive just had a few bad experiances with him/dd is all)

yea im not to worried about the lower bass...i want the stuff that makes the ground shake...and also i had two 13w1s in a huge *** ported box, and ive also hurd some p3s in a honda civic running off a punch 1000wat amp how is this set up going to compare to those two?? (btw i think i will get dd)
