DD 2508's Just Released!

lol
The pics are of a stamped basket sitting on a motor that was laying around. Not saying there is no such thing as a 2508 but the likely hood that it would be a functional and cost effective project is a farce. Not to mention that even though others may feel that there would be much to gain from an idea like this, the real outcome is less then most would desire and the 1508 would out perform it in almost every case.

I think that is about the most I can comment for the most part.
Supposedly there was an email sent to DD dealers announcing the 2508 is available. Any DD dealers here? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

There is always "supposedly" types of information out there. I know what they were working on recently..it was not an 8" I can tell you that haha.

DD has so much **** that is ''coming out'' it isn't even funny.
what is funny is the 99% of what is thought to be real is actually fake.

Well I'm just siphoning info from CACO over to here. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif The threadstarter posted an email that was supposedly received by a DD dealer. I'm almost tempted to call DD and see what they have to say //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

the force of the cone moving (which is what I meant by speed) will increase db's. There is a very detailed paper out on this but I can't find it. DD's bl and xmax are far less then the lms but a 9518 will kill the lms in spl. Same goes for the 5200 vs the 9500. I'm sure you already know mass times acceleration = velocity, which is what dd uses to create high spl. Also I have snapped tons of 12 spokes with my sigs I think I still have 2 or 3 broken ones. Problem with stamped steel is some one new might not know that the basket is bent out of shape if he blows a sub do to coil rub, where a cast basket it's pretty obvious that it's broke. I won't support motors in my box or use bracing nothing that will interrupt airflow is allowed inside my enclosures.
Yes, velocity is part of the equation to calculate force applied, I did not mean to imply otherwise. But I already listed the only two ways cone speed can increase, raising the freq or increasing excursion. There simply is no other way. DD does not have some tech that allows it to break those laws of physics.

As for the comparison of an LMS and a 9500, you are leaving out way too many variables to have your comparison give any valuable insight into the topic. Many 'high efficiency' SPL drivers are simply designed to perform with a peaky output (in a given enclosure alignment) that helps it couple with the transfer function of most vehicles (in the upper bass region). Compare an LMS vs a 9500 over the entire useable freq range a subwoofer would be expected to play for music (not just a single note burp) and I think you'll find the results will change dramatically.

Cheers.

I said already the bottom 2 pics are from 2010 when they has started the idea and the top pic is the real deal... Read the thread guys... And Holic my 8 with the 3 inch coil has about a 7" spider...
That's only 2" of spider on either side of the coil. Not diffing your driver, Im sure it performs well, Im simply saying that the basket for an 8" sub will be so small as to limit the spider landing size, which means you either have to keep the coil diameter relatively small, or lose some excursion potential.

Someone on caco said that was a joke someone pulled...a reconed JL w7 8 with a DD dustcap. Dont know how true that is..?
That does not look like a W7 frame to me. The W7 uses JL's proprietary surround mounting method that takes the surround out to the edge of the frame's diameter. I know this pic has already been debunked, just sayin...

Just some rough thoughts based on the pictures posted here. At some point we have to realize bigger isn't always better. Once a coil is fully saturated, making the motor bigger (the slugs, or the number of slugs) provides little or no help in generating BL force. Again from those pics, I have to assume the coil is a 2" (maybe 2.5"), and my over-saturation-meter starts kicking in. Or, they are going with a larger 3" coil, and then we have to worry how well such an undersized spider will hold up to use/abuse. I would also be concerned about how well the spider would hold up if its suggested the third slug in the motor is meant simply to allow for more rearward vc clearance (a common reason extra slugs are added, contrary to popular belief).
Im not saying I have this sub all figured out just from a couple pics. But again the pics do raise a few red flags in my mind.
lulz, but I love me some giant magnet that isn't mechanically logical on a subhoofer!
