Your car battery is 12v, but your alternator puts out about 14v. So when the car is running, your entire electrical system is actually substantially higher than 12 volts.

Ok sorry to bump this but I thought of a few new questions.
First off, this Cadence amp ( http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_id=6102 ) seems like it would be perfect at it's 2 ohm rating for the DD 1512... but it says that it's rated 2ohm 650 rms @ 13.8 volts, and my car battery is 12 volts and all... does that mean that's what it is with a new higher power alt?

Or should I just stick with my 460 RMS amp and be done with it? Will I really notice that much of a DB gain with 650 more?

Oh, and does anyone know a DD dealer that would ship to me? That would be bangin.

your going to have to contact DD directly to see if you can get them closer to you.. with 460 i would do the 1512... remember that it is a Single 4ohm voice coil.. so you need 450+@4ohm...

I was thinking about a dual 2 ohm vc'es, if they do that for the 1512's... That way I could power it with the amp I have now, and if I ever decide to upgrade to more, I can wire them at 1 ohm and save money on an amp.
