DC Level 4, yes?

About to order a DC Level 4 12" and an AQ 1200d

Going to sit in 1.7 cubes b4 displacement. so roughly 1.55 cubes net.

Ported @ 34Hz with a Flared round port 4" in diameter and 16" long.

My primary concern is the port. Wide enough? Long enough?

I used 12volt's calculator and precision port's calculator for port length.

plz save me from any stupid mistakes.

thanks.

Box wise, should be fine, my 18" was in 5.5ft3 net and sounded perfect.

However, if your going areo, I would suggest a 6" port for a little more port area. Prob going to choke the sub with a single 4". Mutiple 4" ports could also work.

Thats a nice amp/sub combo.

due to box dimensions, i cant fit a 6" port or more than 1 4" as the calculator claims i would need ~37 inches of port length.

max port length i can fit is ~17inches unless i go external

Your port area is a little low. You will experience some port noise at higher power levels. Also, due to the small area, the port itself will be limited and you will notice no increase in output with power increase as out reach this limit. Can you make the box bigger?

I don't understand why people are saying his port area is too low. One 4" PSP port should be plenty. Circle ports are much more efficient than slot ports. It's only about 1.5 cubes after displacement. OP you're fine with just one 4" port.

Have you measured the velocity profile and determine the Reynold's number for flow for a 4" PSP port? Trust me, it's too small. Will it get the job done, yes...but the sub will never reach anywhere near it's potential..

god****it tuan.

Im sitting here studying fluid mechanics, deriving equations based on centerline velocity in a pipe.

I take a break by coming on CA.com, and the first post i read is about gawd**** reynolds number

EDIT: Tuan is right. Trust me, i practically just did the math for it. The 4" will work for your daily setup, but you WOULD see improvement in total output with increased port size

When I was at CSUF, studying Mechanical Engineering, I related all of my projects to car audio. I have all of the reynold's numbers for ports. I even used Pito tubes to measure the velocity profiles. I'm not sure if you've done labs with Pito tubes yet...but they're really fun. I found a different viscosity of air for enclosures. Even though it's air at room temperature, but it behaves differently with acoustics (functions of push and pull). For my "Materials" class, I did a fiberglass enclosure. I also did a motorized amp rack for another projects. The professors loved it. LOL
