Dayton rs 7" or Kicker SSMB8 for 3-way mid bass

i just picked up a set of Alpine Type x 3 way crossovers and am going to throw in a dedicated mid bass.

i am not sure of the exact crossover frequency between mid bass and mid range though.

the kicker can play up to 500 so i am not sure if the crossover is set higher than that.

i wouldnt immagine so but who knows what alpine would do.

i am leaning towards the kicker since they are 8" and made for mid bass not mid range/mid bass like the daytons.

the dayton 8" are too deep so they arent an option

i would appreciate anyone with experience with either driver to let me know what they think of them.

thanks,

and i need to figure how i am going to power this system.

i can use 1,2, or 3 inputs for the crossovers

i am leaning towards a pair of ORION 3002 with one bridged for each side (300 watts per side, headroom FTW)

or i could do 3 orions (1 per set of drivers, tweeters, mid range, mid bass)

but that would cut me to 75 watts per driver and i am not sure if that will get the job done for me.

although i am not sure if the type x crossovers would like that much power

the crossovers are from the SPX-F17T set BTW...

well i would have to use the unshielded 4 ohm version from P.E.

i am still leaning towards the kicker since they arent as deep and are more suited to play down low.

thy will be highpassed at 50 or 63hz and lowpassed at whatever the alpine crossover decides. i am guessing about 4-500hz

I have the kicker ssmb6 in my truck they sound really good. I just need some baffles for them and they will sound at there best. My doors are compelete dynamatted and the ensolite foam is on its way so are the baffles. But they sound really good. I imainge that the ones you want would sound better since they are a bit bigger. But i love um. I know of some people that have the daytons they say there really good too. I beat both will do there jobs just fine.

so is there anybody else that has experience with the kickers 6" or 8"

i got the type x crossovers so the crossover functions will be taken care of by that.

i think i am going to wait on buying more amps and put the money into more sound deadening for the front doors. and maybe a single orion 4002

run the arc for the tweeters and the orion for both mids.

but it all depends on when i get the money from the system i installed in my sisters jeep.

didnt you just get polys ?Those kickers seem to be pretty good.

Not to many midbass 8" IB woofers out there that are decient and can be bought seperate
yeah, the poly's are in my kicks but since they arent sealed they have zero mid-bass

so i am going to add a pair of dedicated mid-bass speakers

i have been driving around with no sub for a while and it is killing me.

I'm going to be using the Dayton RS225's (7" references) in an active setup with 75w. They arrive tomorrow but I can't do anything with them until next weekend... check over at DIYMA. They have reviews over there as well

Why do you need a seperate amp for your tweets and mids? You wont need to give your tweets that much power. A nice beefy 4 channel amp should do just fine.
I agree here. get a 4ch and bridge down to two channels... it'll save you time/money/space on your install...

weirdMy friend has polys in his doors, they have plenty of midbass.

The polys can play low too
well i am sure if i put them in my doors it would be a whole different story.

but in the pods i have the midbass just isnt there.

I am still thinking about a pair of the ORION 3002 because i can bridge one amp per side for 300 watts per side

and just let the type x crossover do all the work.

well i am mainly looking at the kickers right now since i can fit the 8"

with the dayton i can only fit the 7" and just barely.

well if i get the pair of orion's i can fit them under my seats.

or i can put them in the trunk somewhere.

check out the critical mass MB8
http://criticalmassaudio.com/catalog...od&productId=5

the website lists the name wrong just FYI. i talked to their tech guy and he told me they will play +\-3db up to 3.5khz easy, and go as low as 30hz or so.

with a 2.5" mounting depth, they are from my research one of the best midbass 8" drivers available if you can find a deler.
those do look rather sextastic but at that kind of price they are out of my reach atleast for now.

and thank you all for your responses
