Dayton HO 12 for SQ?

I'm looking to buy a subwoofer for SQ. I have a .9 cu ft sealed enclosure and have a 150 rms 4ohm JBL amp that I am going to replace. I heard good things about the Dayton HO but it requires quite a bit of power.

Are there any other subs i should consider for around $150? I will probably get an amp like a rockford 300 rms 4ohm for it.

Also, there is a DVC version of the HO and the regular... Which one is the recommended one? If I get the DVC and wire it in parallel, would this mean it will handle 700 watts at 2 ohms?

Sorry I am kind of a noob.

Thanks!

It depends on the music you listen. If you listen the kind of music where most bass is coming from bass guitar and drums (say rock, jazz, etc), then maybe you will be fine with the power you have. If you listen music with more synthetic bass sound, like rap, some types of pop or dubstep, then you may not be satisfied with the output. This sort of depends on personal preferences. The DVC model does have a significantly lower sensitivity: 83.2 dB 1W/1m. That's kind of low by 12 inch subwoofer standards, you basically get the sensitivity of an average 10 sub. It shouldn't be bad IMO, specially with adequate power. Just make sure you're not clipping the signal. As another option, I'd suggest to consider Infinity Kappa 120.9w subwoofer. First, it has a switch to flip between 2ohm or 4ohm impedance, so you don't need to worry about compatibility with amplifier in your future setups. The subwoofer build looks solid, cast frame design + a unique looking woven fiber cone. The SQ is very good according to most people who tried it, but remember that SQ depends 75% on tuning, sound proofing, and box install, 20% on the subwoofer, 5% beer. If the net box volume is smaller than 1.2cu ft, add a bit of polyfill, 1.5pounds per 1cu ft of net box volume. This increases effective box size by up to 30%. I run ~500watts to mine. They did go up in price recently. I got mine for $150 shipped a couple years ago.

I personally suggest the Polk SR124....but it is rated at 700 RMS. I am sending around 500 RMS to my SR104 and I have absolutely no complaints. It would work perfect with the box you have, but probably need to get a different amp that can supply atleast 500 RMS. The SR series is polks top of the line and are well known for their exceptional SQ.

I am actually selling one of my Polk SR subs...They are somewhat hard to find these days but can be found if you search around. Let me know if you are interested.

You should have a more powerful amp to get a sub like that to really get moving. For the cost of a Rockford 300W amp you could get twice the power, but get the dual 4 ohm version of that sub if possible. Then you'll run an amp at 2 ohms for more power.
