A cap will put more strain on the alt. The cap does store power, but no where near enough. Teh cap needs to charge before it can store, there for creating an un-needed load on the alt.

A cap will not put more strain on the alt. That's like saying carrying around a penny in your pocket is going to put more strain on your muscles due to the added weight.

Capacitors store power, although they tend to be pointless if you just upgrade your battery to begin with. I've used a cap before, and it didn't do a **** thing. Marketing.
