Allright, I got some news, fellas. I put on a third coat of black last night, I just didn't take a picture until today. Here's everything ready for the gloss:

Buuut, when I started with the clear, I noticed when it was drying, the gloss shrank.

I got the shift boot cover, cigarette lighter trim ring, and ash tray all painted with gloss before I noticed. Here is a picture of everything together. Notice that the HU panel is still w/o the clearcoat.

I put the shift boot cover in my car to see how it looked. I actually kind of like how it looks in the car with the texture of the dash.

I'm not going to put the clearcoat on the HU panel yet because if I decide that I don't like it, that would be a shitload of sanding. I'm going to re-install everything and drive it for a while to see how I like the crackle that the clearcoat gave me.

IMO, that paint looks horrible.

What paint did you use and what clear did you use?

 

The clear may not have been compatible with the paint, thus causing that reaction.

 

Or, there is a glaze/clear coat system designed to crinkle up as it dries. Did you use that by mistake??

Well it wouldn't be too hard to sand and repaint, but I'm going to leave it in my ride for a little bit to see how I like it.

No, it isn't a must, but I was just thinking it would be nice to have a protective layer or two. I'm kinda liking the semi-gloss black finish now that I've had it in my car for a while.

I'll most likely be sanding down the pieces that I painted with clear and repainting them with just the black semi-gloss.
