Well, due to the odd shape of what I'll be using the glaze for, I'm thinking a high build aerosol primer will be the best bet for me.
Are there any of these at HD or Autozone, or would SEM be the way to go?

There is a Duplicolor Filler Primer that is ok also. Not as good or as thick as the SEM, but will work and I have used it plenty of times in a pinch.

Now Duplicolor makes 2 diffeent colored filler primers, the grey, GOOD, and the red, BAD.

For some reason, the red colored filler primer doesn't work so good and clogs the paper when sanding it, even wet sanding.

 

Best way to use it......clean the piece very good. Use a tack rag and don't touch it with your hands. Wipe it down with some wax & grease remover and let it dry.

Spray the filler primer on and when you come to the holes, let it build up. If you get a couple runs, don't worry. Cover the whole thing and let it dry.

Use some 220 or higher grit paper and wet sand it.

Repeat if necassary. ou will get the hang of it and it will turn out better than expected.

what are pinholes? I have used bondo before but didn't notice any holes in the work. I assume they are in reference to something else.

Uh, pinholes are pretty much inevitable when working with Bondo. They're the little pricks (no pun intended) that are about the size of a the tip of a pencil in the surface of the filler.

AutoZone, Pep Boys, Advanced Auto Stores, K-Mart and Wal-Mart should have the filler primers. Never seen nor looked for it at Home Depot.

Picked up a can of Duplicolor primer filler. Got everything sanded and ready for the primer.

And here it is with a coat of primer. There are a few runs, but nothing that won't sand off easily.

it really makes no difference with primer. your sanding it down anyways. with paint....your absolutely right, primer doesnt really matter.

Yeah, I don't consider myself an expert at all in this category, but I have enough experience to know that I can't do that with the paint. I was just tryin to fill some pinholes.
