i thought i answered this one already... hmmmm

as mentioned above, the sub out on the HU may be full range if the HU's crossover is defeated. on some headunits that is not possible - the sub out is always low pass filtered.

the sub out on the HU also has discrete level control which is nice to retain.

i recommend keeping all speakers in the front on the front HU outs.

use a splitter.

you want to retain fader and balance at all times.

worse thing the splitter does is halve the voltage gain relationship of output impedance (of the HU) to input impedance (of the amps).

 
If you are taking it to an installer anyway, why not have him test the output? It is literally a 1 - 5 minute test, if you have the equipment on hand (which an installer does). The way that everyone described up above would be a quick test, if you have the cables and equipment laying around.
