Hey everyone! This is my first post here and I am looking forward to some great discussion. In January I bought a broken in 1997 Volkswagen Jetta TDi to drive 65-70 miles round trip to work to save money and keep the miles off of my 2012 Jeep Wrangler with 37 inch tall tires. This car was BONE STOCK and still had a working OEM tape deck. I am not new to car audio but I want to try something a bit different, a couple weeks ago my crappy tape deck went down for the count. I was trying to deal with the terrible audio until I got my Jeep finished but I can't stand it anymore.
I had an idea to run a 1/2 din EQ like a NVX XEQ7 (70$) as a head unit with dual amps an active crossover and some budget components. I haven't burned a cd in years and either stream all music via spotify or music from my iPhone... I avoid fm radio like the plague.
Plan is 2 6.5s in the front doors with tweeters mounted in the dash where the oem 3.5? speakers were, the same setup in the rear deck with a single 12 with a sealed enclosure in the trunk.
I have been reading some about the silver flute drivers and vifa tweeters (also curious about 3" Dayton drivers model rs75-4).
Ideal power for mids/highs 60-100rms sub 400-500rms
If I need a really good head unit I will purchase one but it will most likley be used and in the 100$ range. A buddy has a alpine cde-hd138bt in that price range. Any advice will be great. I really want a natural, clean, musical sound with a low key appearance.
