d3100 initial charging?

i have read where many people just got the battery and installed it without charging it. It comes with a paper that says charge battery before installing. I got battery today but just got off work and havent been able to check it. I will check voltage in the morning

i trickle charged mine before first use, not sure if its critical to do or not, but why risk it when you can just go to walmart and buy a charger/charge it/then return the charger when your finished?

i just went out and got Dmm out and checked it, its sitting at 12.79 now.

Might as well charge it up some, then your alternator won't have to work too hard (if my understanding is correct).
