Cylindrical enclosure?

Any downfall to round enclosures? I know it's not quite safe to say "air space is air space", but I'm doing a customer 'glass enclosure, and I have access to cardboard construction tubing for free. The enclosure is going to hug the corner of the trunk, and will be a pretty irregular form, so I want to start with the cardboard tubing, so that I can accurately calculate air space. This is a system for a DD, and it's all free from Pioneer, so I'm working with what I've got. The sub is a TS-W2501D4, and it's going in .6^2ft sealed. 10" diameter tubing, 13.25" long.

Space doesn't permit for a port, or it would be an option. I listen to 99% metal anyways, so I want it very punchy. It's rare that I pop in some techno or rap. I'm basically building the tube as you described, sealed, and then building around it to flush out the enclosure with the corner of the trunk.

I have the product planners for Pioneer at my disposal, so I'll be conferring with them on it, just to be sure. I can see how back waves would be a problem in a tube.

This is a bit off topic, but those subwoofers are absolutely no good sealed. You'll be disappointed both with output and low-end extension. Either port it or don't use it at all.

I don't have any real experience with them, but they're giving to to me for free, and I don't have a sub at all now. I'll be researching that, now that it's been brought up as a concern, and I'll redesign as needed. I can make room enough for using a port, but I'll have to stretch the enclosure into the trunk a little more than I wanted.

The increase in needed airspace puts me out of the area I wanted to keep the box in. Ported was my original plan, but sealed would look a little cleaner, a little easier. I need another

.3^2ft for ported, per Pioneer specs.

And I know 'bass tubes' have been around for years, I didn't know if it was a matter of cost for companies like Bazooka, of if there was actually some merit in the design.

I think I'm gonna go ported... In the time it took to type that, I changed my mind, lol. I just thought of a way to flush it in all pretty like, even with the larger size.

The tubes I'm getting are Sonotubes, from Sonoco.

The Pioneer SPL series are really not designed for sealed applications. You won't need much of a port for a single ten. 1 cu.ft. with a 3 or 4" port on the other side won't take up much room, and I would really encourage you to give it a try.

Although if you don't want to deal with it, I suppose its better than nothing :p
