cvr10 subs hookup help

the subs have 4 speaker ports...2 red and 2 black. I had them hooked up where the both of each color where connected...

  • Red -> Red -> Amp
    black -> Black -> Amp

My amp can handle them for a little while then gets extremely hot and they shut off. I cant gett a new amp atm but may be able to soon. Is there anther way to hook these up to fit my amplifier ? I know there is different configurations you can whire the four ports with but the online manual is difficult to understand. My amp is an Alpine mrv-t502.

Thanks for the help

dude that amp is pretty weak? but check it out, looks like theyre the dual 2 ohms, but anyways just google sub wiring diagram, or something along that line it will give you what you want, and im htinking youre gonna wanna go with a 2 ohm load, but thats only 50 watts per sub? idk dude your amp might just be to weak?

...
d2's?? and you wired them parallel?

so is the amp bridged? you are either showing the amp a mono .5ohm load or 2 1ohm loads:crap:

I do not have them hooked up mono, they are both plugged in separately in the amp...both boxes have the positive and negative going to the 4 positives and negatives on the amp so all the speaker wire amp ports are used.

you stated that the subs are dual 2ohm coils. This means that each subwoofer will have 2 + and 2 - connections and then each box will have a single + and -.

The coils can either be wired series(+ to -) which yield a 4ohm load per sub...

or they can be wired parallel (+ to + and - to -) which yield a 1ohm load per sub.

Yes this is correct

So I should go with parallel because it puts less stress on the amp, and run the amp bridged mono ?

Or just run one sub wired in series ?

I just need it to play music and be dependable until I get some money for a new system.

Ok, I only see a few options for hooking them up....if someone can point me to the right one I can wire em up and be done with it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Amp Specs

Power Output at 12V (20Hz ~ 20kHz):

2 x 50W @ 4 ohm (0.08% THD)

2 x 100W @ 2 ohm (0.3% THD)

1 x 200W @ 4 ohm bridged (0.3% THD)

  1. If I were to wire them parallel and bridge them in the amp, that would give them 200w (100w each) 1 x 200W @ 4 ohm bridged (0.3% THD)
  2. But if I hooked them up the way I had them with separate wires it would still give them 100w each speaker. just at 2 ohm...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif (2 x 100W @ 2 ohm (0.3% THD))
  3. Or I can just hook one sub up in series and it would get 1 x 200W @ 4 ohm bridged (0.3% THD).
  4. I suppose I could also hook them up both series Bridged but wouldn't that be to much for the amplifier ?

Someone tell me what config to use because I had them hooked up like #2 and the amp got so hot it melted the plastic around the ground input //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Thanks for your help guys, not to knowledgeable in the audio specs area.

2x100 @ 2ohm is in stereo mode. 100 watts for each sub isn't enough power.

I would just run one sub in series for a 4ohm load and bridge the amp. To wire the sub go from solid black to red/white dot. The black/white dot goes to the neg on the amp and red goes to positive on the amp.

You need to get a mono amp that does between 600-800 watts x1 @ 2 ohms to power both subs right.
