cutting my door

Taking the advice of some on this forum, instead of the recommened 4x6 speakers for my front door, I wnet with some 5.25 component speakers................but I think I may have to cut some of my door in order to allow the magnet to fit.....so I guess my question is could I and should I do it or should I let someone else do it. I wnet to a local shop down the street from me and the guy told me he would put in the speakers and cut the hole for my speakers and put them in for $80. So what do ya think?

that's actually not a bad price for such a custom job, but if you have a jigsaw or any other handheld saw, I'd say cut it yourself. I've done it, its not that hard. Just wear goggles so you don't get metal in your eye. also make sure you don't damage the integrity of the car's frame

yeah a jigsaw is not the proper tool for that. if you want to go cheap, buy a dremel with a good set of attachments. can use those things for **** near anything.

and x2 on eye protection.

x4 on the Dremel.

When I put my rsd components in (their 6.5's) they barely wouldn't fit in the door in the hole for the speaker. I just took my vicegrips (pliers would work fine) and bent the metal back enough to fit it in. That way if i ever sell my car i can bend it back and put in the old speakers easily.

btw, what is the car? In my first car (93 nissan sentra) it had 4x6s in it stock and when I opened up my door the 4x6 speakers were on some sort of baffle (i guess thats what you would call it). When i took them out I was able to fit in 6.5 components no problem with no modification whatsoever, even though online sites told me otherwise. So if you haven't actually physically opened the door and looked at what you could fit I would recommend doing that first.

this is true. i had 6x8 stock in a plastic baffle. took them out, made my own baffles and fit 6.75s no problem. look at it before you do anything
