Cut myself pretty bad at work last friday w/ pics

Hey guys, just thought id share some pics of my cut i got while working last friday (9th). A lil background: I'm a welder at Eli Lilly's so i work with and fabricate sheet metal. Last friday i was working on a piece of 20 guage sheet metal on a bench grinder that had a polishing wheel on it, and happened to push the piece of metal in too hard. Well it didnt like that, so the piece of metal decided to kick. I got a cut on my left hand, middle finger about a centimeter and a half long, down to the bone. Here are some pics to show ya what it looks like after i got the stitches out.





^ thats a good pic, you can see most of the whole slice from the piece of metal. The cut goes from my index finger to right below my pinky.



^ that 1 is pretty much the whole cut on my middle finger. 1.5 cm long down to the bone.

when i got the cut, blood was SQUIRTING out to my pulse. It never hurt, and when the cut first happened you could stick the back of a BIC ball point pen all the way down to the bone and not touch skin.

Nerve, it was cut in half, i dont have feeling on half my middle finger (the side where it was cut) no ligament damage, i could move it fine at the time it happened. doc says its going to take about 2 months to regain normal feeling in my hand. It wasnt a box cutter, It was a huge bench grinder on a bedestal with a buffing wheel. The piece of sheet metal kicked off the grinder and onto my hand.

I hear ya man, I do HVAC work, that sheet metal is no joke, it'll cut you likt you were nothin...

next time wear gloves.

Gloves werent required for that machine, and 20 guage sheet metal is so thin that it would prolly be worse to wear gloves. I mean there would have been the possiblilty of me not getting cut, but far worse could have happened had i got my glove caught in. glove catches, then sleeve catches, ends up with my face in a buffing wheel= worse off then getting my finger cut. Thank you.

my dad got his arm wrapped up in a conveyor belt one time and it start pulliing his arm in and the only way to make it stop he had to grap the roller that the belt was on and grab it to make it stop movin and it started squealing cause he was forcing it to stop and a guy ran over and turned it off, when he finally got his arm out which was up to his shoulder just about the skin had busted open and his muscle and tissue and stuff was hangin it out he drove to the hospital with one arm and got it stiched up all the way around
