Custom subwoofer enclosure help! Tc9 motor.

Vehicle: 2003 Kia Rio

Location in the vehicle: trunk

Space available (Length x Width x Height):35x31x18.5

Subwoofer make and model: I think the magnet is a tc9

Subwoofer Size:12

Number of Subwoofers:2

Type of Port (Kerfed, Slot, Aero, etc.):

What type of music do you like?:rock

Is your goal SPL or Everyday Music?:sq

Tuning freq: 30-34? What would be the best?

I was told they need 1.5 cubic feet each sub and the port needs about 14 sq inch per cubic foot so about 17.5 sq port area.

here is the box that I messed around with

The area is greater than 3 (1.5 per speaker), but that leaves room for adding some bracing to the insides.

hope that gets you started and hopefully a custom box builder will give you better suggestions.

what makes it not that accurate? I only ask because I used it x 2 now just to build basic boxes in sketch up and after it was all said and done I manually calculated the area and put it into 12volts website that many other recommended and it came out with basically the same tuning as well. Actually it was alot easier because 12volts website doesn't incorporate the port inside area. SO you have to basically guess at which tuning it will be because if you do a basic box 12x12.x12 and use 1 cubic foot then get your tuning, then once you build your port inside the area is off and you have to see what happened to the tuning. This is of course is what I have seen. Since I haven't actually built a box, just messing around with dimensions and all I maybe totally wrong.

Is there another website that many recommend.... If needed pm me so as to not highjack this thread.

1.5 will do ok from the looks of them. Could go a little larger, but I don't think there will be a need for it.

Could go to around 1.75 maybe 2...but meh, shouldn't "need" it to get them doing well.

Well I sold him the subs and had 1 in 2.5 cu ft. I also had 1 in 2.0 cu ft designed for an idmaxv2 so I just put it in there to try it out and it really underperformed all around, just wasnt hitting the lows with no where near as much authority. sounded much better all around in the 2.5. here's the exact box... that box was not designed by me but designed by the maker of the subs... just throwing in my 2 cents

Do you know what suspension was used? It is rather hard to "guess" at enclosure designs for custom subs with little to no information on them.

Also, there are more things working for the output then just net volume... Port area, tuning, and sub/port placement all affect the response as well.

Qua they went with heavy stitched leads, impact of resistant epoxy for the triple joint where the voice coil spider and coil meet, a clam ring on the spider landing so that the spider makes full contact with the bare aluminum frame when the adhesive is setting. If any of that means anything to you. That's what it says under suspension. It will all be posted tomorrow it won't let me post it for some reason.

Ok, I got in contact with the guy who made the subs and he said I need a box that is either 2.5 or 2 each can I fit that in my trunk?
