hey i need a box for my type r but am wondering if it is even worth the extra money to spend. I just want a sealed box for one 12 type r. recommended sealed volume is .75 - 1.00 cu ft. now the custom box is ganna be around 120 for the shop to make. and the prefab box is ganna be 30. the sales man didnt make a very convicing argument of why i should buy a custom. the prefab is .75 ( within the recomended sealed volume.) he said that the custom box is 1/4 inch thicker material and he could make it fire down. is it ganna be a huge sound difference from a prefab and a custom box. you think its worth 100 bucks more. cuz right now i dont.

1 other thing. how will it sound different from increasing or decreasing the volume of the box. thanks.

Well, increasing the volume will make the bass lower and deeper. I don't know if it would be worth paying $130 for a custom box though. Although the custom box would be a lot stronger. I say just make your own box. If you don't have the tools to do it, ask around, I'm sure somebody would let you use their tools.

Whasasp bro,

jus go for the pre fabbox....or..byob....build your own box....

i had 2 12" type r's in ma pathfinder....and they hit really well, in a box i made myself.

so, eithermake yourown, or get the prefab..

its not worth 130 for a box, for that kinda cash uget get another type R

hey can you give me a site that has some info on building boxes. how do you seal a box? i just wouldnt want the one i made to **** more than the prefab. alright thanks

All the links I have aren't car audio, sub box specific but are still good...

Those links are mostly for use with MDF but if you want fiberglass or anything, I have a few of those links which I am just too **** lazy to look up at the moment,//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I would be interested in some links on making fiberglass boxes. It would be good reading. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Most of the stuff on the net is not all that detailed on the art of fiberglassing. Search this forum 'cause I know someone else asked this question a long ways back. If you can, but this month's and last month's Auto Sound and Security. It's my favorite magazine and includes a pretty good picture tutorial of making a fiberglass box. Anyway, here are some links which I have dug up in the subjuct of glassing, some are about making kick panels and they may be a little dated but here they are...

Hope they help, I might have some more but as always, I never arrange my bookmarks all that well so I might stumble upon some more at sometime.:p
