Hey everyone, I've been working on a project for my audiobahn aw1006-t to fire into. The sub will be inverted, and the cone will be visible through 0.5" thick plexi. Here's the wood frame...

And here's the first thin layer of resin applied to the lycra. Starting to look like something //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Last pic for now...the left support will need a little fill in work done, but that won't be too difficult. I'm pretty happy with it especially since this is my first time doing fiberglass!!

Let me know what you think!

Thanks guys! I'll definitely post pics of the progress as it happens.

One thing I can't decide on, how should I cover it? I'd prefer to match it to my car color, but that would take a ton of effort and time. Another idea is to cover it with black carpet.

Let me get some opinions! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

DO NOT CARPET that thing.....

If you play it right and take your time, that thing will be a work of art...

Do not hide its craftsmanship with carpet...

I mean if you are going to spend the time and effort to do a wicked Fiberglass Plexi-windowed Pod creation like that, Finish it....

Spend the Time, effort and Money to Color match it with your Z's Exterior paint.... At the least cover it with vinyl that matches yuor cars interior.... But do not carpet it... PLEEEEEEASE!!!!!

LOL! True, that's what I reeeeaallly want to do.

I don't know much about sanding/painting, so should I take it to a pro? What would be a price range for something this size?

Thanks for the help!

If I were you, I'd find a place locally to paint it for you. You've done a good job so far, so you should be able to add body filler/sand it smooth by yourself. But it is an incredibly tedious process, so you might want to have to have them do it instead of you, depending on how much they charge. Once you get all the prepwork done and are ready to add body filler/paint, you can just go to a shop and talk to the people there to get an estimate of how much everything will cost.

Is fiberglassing hard???? You seem to have done an awesome *** job, keep up the good work. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/clap.gif.178cba2c538c68e720c727fcb024b19c.gif

Thanks for the compliments everybody! I honestly learned everything I know about fiberglassing from this site, and I appreciate the great resource!

I feel like I can bondo/sand by myself. What kind of sander would I need for this?
