custom enclosure

Hey guys,

I was wondering what the range of price goes for when asking a box builder to make a 2 cuft tuned to 33Hz and 30-40 sq in of port area?

I live in santa cruz california and a guy that used to work in a car audio shop does work at his own garage now. He's asking for $200 for that ported box wrapped in vinyl, or $250 for a sealed enclosure that will fit in the tire well. Are these prices right?

I'd say that's pricey for a box, but then again, I know how much it actually costs to make one. If your really concerned with how it looks and don't feel you can do it yourself I guess that's a decent price, you may be able to talk him down a bit though. If you just want a solidly built box you can get someone else on here to do it. I'm sure someone will chime in if they can help. (I have a extra MDF sheet, but no freetime, sorry) Or, my favorite idea, go to ECA and see if Mr. Marv can do one for you. I'd bet he's every bit as good as the pro in your area (probably better), but will probably be cheaper.

I just got the enclosure finished yesterday. It's meant for the 12" BTL but I don't have an amp to power it yet, so in the meantime, I'm just substituting a RE HC 12". Two different worlds but yea, it's just temporary. The enclosure is fiberglassed at the bottom to fit the mold of the tire well and it was supposed to be 30-40sqin of port area but I ended up getting this instead =(. I'm still talking to the builder on his reasoning for this setup instead. Anyways, here are the pics. I have side by side comparisons of the RE HC and the BTL. I'm saving up $$ for a class D amp to power the BTL. Til then this is what I have.

Oh yea, constuctive criticism encouraged, I need to explain to the builder that the enclosure might not have been built properly. The small port still bothers me. Sounds pretty good at low volumes right now but when I crank it up, it sounds a bit funky on some songs. I'm not sure what the reasoning would be for that. I'm running the Re Hc with a Fosgate P800.2. So a little more than 800rms to it, and my theory for the low output is that maybe the fiberglass isn't completely dry or the small port is restricting the full output.

its only for one 12, and the wierd sound you're hearing is most likely port noise caused by the small port. That really isn't a terrible price, especially since there was fiberglass work involved
