Custom Enclosure Help/Suggestions

To help set the stage and prevent misunderstanding, I am not new to car audio, custom fabricated enclosures (Fleece, glass, wood, etc.). I am however kinda new to SQ enclosure building.

Car: 95 mustang GT with mach 460 sound

Goal: duplicate rear deck enclosure in "look" and mounting style, but house 2 Alpine 12" Thins.

I am back and forth on if I should use 3/4 high density, birch, OR make a 1/4 glass enclosure and paint to match.

I calculated the EBP for each sub to be approx 42.67 thus placing these bad boys in the "Sealed" category.

In a .5-.75 cu ft enclosure this will put my qtc at approx 1.3, fc @ 55.4 and f3 @ not quite 40.

These subs will be down firing. I am just not sure how to attain the most accurate SQ possible with this setup using the said materials.

Any help and suggestions would be awesome.

Thanks,

Jesse

Okay, little added adjustments. Rather than going with glass, I am looking into either .5" high density or solid Birch. PLEASE, some insight. Not looking so hot on the responses. Either it is an obvious answer that I do not know, or I am not addressing the issues with the proper question. Either way, the winter is here and the mustang is getting gutted for SD, wiring, and enclosure fabbing.

Thanks for any help,

Jesse

I was being lazy and didn't want to stack 1/2-5/8 of glass on top of itself to get the "ideal" thickness for the subs. Not worried about finishing more so than sq.

As long as the enclosure is rigid and the right volume, you're good. Specific material isn't that important. You're going to have to brace it well with the thinner wood to kill resonance. I'd probably stuff the enclosure with poly-fil to try to get the Q down a little bit.

If you haven't bought the subs yet, I'd jump on the Stereo Integrity BM mkIIIs while Nick still has one or two available.

If you can afford 1-1.5ft^3 per sub I'd look into the Dayton Reference HF at partsexpress.com. The 8ohm model will give you a f3 at ~35hz. They have low distortion, low inductance, and only cost ~$110 each. Then just find a nice 2channel to bridge to the pair at 4ohms, or use something like a PG X600.1 or a JL 750/1 if your budget permits it.

The Mach 5 IXL for sealed apps is a good option too at ~$150.

Thanks for the offer brother. If you look at the threads I have started, I am some what of a car audio fabrication professional. Not to say I can't learn a thing or two. Good looking out.

I am set on using Alpine m12 for along with a pair of F4s for my mids/highs/rears/mid drivers and ambient tweets.

Not too worried about cash, just wanna do it right.
