Custom door pods and more.

So I decided that I can't stand the stock stereo anymore. The 1st gen s10's have a front stage consisting of 4x6's in the dash, not exactly ideal. I decided to remedy this by doing some custom work to the door panels to fit 6.5's.

Step One: Get those door panels off!

Step Two: Remove the plastic rivets holding the map pocket and lower carpeted panel on.

Step Three: Copy shape onto plywood and cut it out (pod base).

Step Four: design and cut the pod faceplate. I don't have a router anymore so we used our mad skill and a jig saw... and some sand paper.

Step Five: Attach pods faceplate to the pods base

I didn't get much down today. I wasn't feeling good so I called it quits pretty quickly.

I decided to test fit them. (note, they aren't bolted on, they're just laying there.)

Then I sanded the drivers side down with 80 grit.

Then I added a few layers of mat, I forgot to get pictures though...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I'm going to paint them. I'm painting the whole door panel black, and switching the gray clothe to black simulated leather. If fact, the whole interior is getting switch to black with black leather seats.

Today I got the mat laid down on the passenger side.

The drivers side is 95% done. I got the body filler on and sanded down smooth.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to have both of them completely finished! It'll be nice having door panels again!

I'll post pictures tomorrow (forgot my camera at home, I'm waiting for my cousin to send me the pictures he took.)

Didn't get many pictures. I just plain didn't want to mess with it today, but I made myself work on them at least a little. The garage is so freakin dirty that you get tripped up with nearly every step. I'm moving the operation over to my sisters tomorrow. I stay with her doing the week (until her baby daddy is released, some of you know that story), so I can work on them over there when I get a bit of free time.

If all goes to plan I'm going to order most/all the equipment Friday. New goal for getting the doors done is Monday evening (I want to go to the track.)

A bit of body filler.

A bit of high build primer.

Passenger side. I got some mat laid, then sanded that down. Then I laid a coat of resin on top of that (I started getting in a foul mood, so I just laid it on thick and then went to lunch.)
