Custom Box

I just bought a barely used type r 1542 that was in a custom box. The box is huge, 34x22x19 and the slot port is 3x18x18. I figure it's about 6.5 cubes so is this too big for one sub? I have another 15" box that is 21x13x19 slot ported. The bigger box is tuned to about 25-30 hertz and the smaller one 45ish. Which is the best to go with? I'm very confused and keep going back and forth to seperate sites. Thank you

Depends what you're going for. Try out your other box and see which you like better...

first box is 7.66cubes tuned to 28hz dont know much about the second one but it will most likely be better due to the fact that the big box will have very little control over the speakers cone and will only need a very little bit of power to make the speakers reach maximum mechanical capabilities.

the big big would actually fit two 15s quite well.

in short the big box is too big for what you need which leaves u with two options build a new box or use the small one

and i would definitely take a good look at the speaker to make sure it wasnt damage by being use in the big box

Thanks for the info. I think I will just stick with the smaller box until I can either buy another 15 or build a different box. I actually bought it without testing it which I know is stupid but he got rid of the vehicle they were in and I dont have the system hooked up yet. It moves without any problem or noise, the coil and cone/rubber are good. Only paid $100 for it with the box and a 10" kicker in a box. Will it sound decent at 45 hertz?

should be fine just dont use any bass boost as it will boost 40-45hz to much and cause the signal to clip and in time blow your sub
