That's ridiculous. Clearly wealthy citizens in NC aren't "receiving gov't assistance.". Additionally, the net difference in fed income taxes paid vs fed funds received is a poor metric. For example, NC houses Ft Bragg, Camp Lejune & MCAS Cherry Point. Virginia for example, is a crazy net tax recipient because of all the Federal services housed there. Hawaii is another example, with their small population vs Pearl Harbor & other military installations.

Measuring something like Medicare/welfare recipients would be slightly better metric, but still flawed as poor people will flee expensive blue cities/states for more affordable rural areas.

OK. So we're still talking about NC being behind the 8-ball by $14 BILLION.

And that's with the (false) presumption that the $4 Billion allocated by the DOD to North Carolina has no positive impact on the economy (such as paying all the contractors, the personnel - who spend money in the economy and pay taxes, etc).

So N.C. is a net taker of $14 BILLION a year. That means that the taxpayers of NC, as a group, are paying $14 BILLION a year less in taxes than they should.
With ~4.6 million taxpayers, that's an average shortfall of $3,000 per taxpayer, per year.
If you contribute less than you get back, then you are getting assistance.

Why would you think that wealthy people do not benefit from paying less in taxes than they would if N.C. wasn't a taker state?
