Current events discussion

It's almost impossible to get through the permitting process for one then permits getting canceled on political whims (i.e. Keystone) then add in constant court cases fighting a potential permit...yeah they can build refineries 🙄

So no matter what we drill...we're as dependent as ever on unfriendly at best nations for our energy needs...no way that'll ever bite us in the azz...
When big corps want something done they get it done. All the leases and permits got approved to increase drilling when petro prices increased and they wanted to increase output.

We are less dependent on "enemies" than in a long long time. We're currently a net exporter of petro.

How so? Considering there's a fraction of the capacity to refine domestic vs imported crude...drilling gets all the attention and at first glance we drill more than enough to meet our needs but take away or tighten the availability of imported oil and we can't refine enough domestic to meet our needs...so the whole net exporter thing may lead to slightly lower prices at the pump because of availability on the global market but it does next to nothing for energy independence or not relying wholeheartedly on nations that are unfriendly in the best of times...

How many permits does it take?
A fck load for just a small refinery from local, state, and the various fed agencies and the total number depends on location, proccess, size etc...it's not like shooting down to the dmv for a learners permit or even going through permitting to build a house

The local rendering plant has about 100 various permits according to their QA person and that a small plant with about 30 employees and processes about 5-7m pounds of chicken scraps a week.

We refine just shy of 1/5th of the global crude oil and are the #1 refiner of crude, with China right on our heels. Nobody else even close to the US and China. Additionally, I'm not sure why you think global multinational corps would care about whether the US has energy independence or not. As a matter of fact, I'd suggest US energy independence is not in their best interests.

Our economy would crash. Then people would really start complaining when prices would sky rocket because "white" or "legal" people would be doing the jobs that illegals are currently doing. It's simple math. When a company has to pay more to get a job done the customer will pay more for said product.

That's a pretty racist and ignorant remark. I'm not white, and I have good job. Take a course in economics, then come back and apologize for your comment.

Biden has given record permits, but those permits, and all of his Greenhouse regulations, costs way too much. The refineries are paying crap ton of money to run the plants. Take a look at the new regulations that these plants and pump stations have to abide by. They are pretty high.

Why doesn't anybody mention Canada? The United States of America is producing a record amount of oil. I guess Biden should be given credit for that.View attachment 58407

I know you won't read it. I still try.
The main purpose for the pipeline was to transport the oil. You are all crying about greenhouse gases, but you would rather send diesel trucks out to transport oil than to have it pumped through a pipeline. We might as well start doing that with our domestic water. Forget the water channels that deliver water. Lets just start trucking it.
