Current events discussion

Did something happen on Jan 15th? How about the day Trump left office? Remind me again when something actually happened. Oh yeah, Aug. 26, 2021. Wasn't that when BIDEN AND HARRIS killed 13 American service members? CAN'T DENY THAT.
Yes, something happened on Jan 15th: The troops weren't home as Trump's plan called for.
Hell, he didn't even have a plan in place for the original date he set of May 2021.

Had Trump not been a sucker and believed the Taliban would actually play nice, and actually followed through with the plan for the troops to be home by Jan 15th (or Christmas as he tweeted to the world), the troops would have been home long before August 2021.

Instead, Kabul fell to the..TALIBAN. Why? Because of a drawdown that was not completed on schedule, and because the Taliban are TERRORISTS, and were stronger than they had been in 20 years. Shocking news is that the terrorists acted like terrorists instead of the pals Trump thought they were.

It is very fortunate that it wasn't more than 13 lives lost, as the evacuation involved some 125,000 people.

Failing to to stick to the plan causes the plan to fail.
And it did.

That document directly from the White House goes further in-depth. I was just pointing out that all of the blaming of Biden for the problems encountered during the withdraw is disingenuous and dishonest.

The withdraw should have been complete before Biden even took office. "Home by Christmas!" were Trump's own words.
The fact that the Taliban was at their strongest after Trump set things up (when President Biden took office on January 20, 2021, the Taliban were in the strongest military position that they had been in since 2001, controlling or contesting nearly half of the country), and before he left office, says a lot about who is responsible.
IMHO, we're blaming Trump and/or Biden for something that really belongs at the feet of the Bush and Obama administrations. Bush shouldn't have invaded Iraq and focused solely on Afghanistan. Obama micromanaged Afghanistan and didn't do a good job of it. Trump made a final push when he got into office saw it was a lost cause and committed to pulling out, Biden ended up being in office when the pull out (which was going to be messy regardless of who was in office) happened.

Trump never thought the Taliban were our pals. He had to choose between ISIS and the Taliban and he chose the Taliban.

I'm flipping thru channels - kinda funny to see the different biases. PBS seems pretty somber. Looks like Trump has this locked up and it just going to be a matter of if Kamala can make it close. Looks like the Reds might get control of both branches of Congress, the White House and they've already stacked the courts. I'm not necessarily a big fan of that imbalance of power, OTOH, the Blue team can only blame themselves and decades of shitty policies finally pushing the voters into the hands of the GOP.

Woke finally broke the DNC.:LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:
