Unfortunately, you're right, we won't really audit the gov't. Nevertheless, it would have been nice if Trump would have fought for that audit even if he couldn't deliver.

Congress, special interests and their donors can and will kneecap any real changes, but what if the audits get built into the system going forward? Maybe Doge has morphed into an actually streamlined effective part of a smaller govt as designed? Time will tell but our congress can't agree on whether to breathe the air or poison it to spite the opposing side, even a phyrric outcome won't deter the most entrenched.
