They have the world's largest database in their pocket. They could look up whatever they needed to justify any position they've taken. Ultimately, they know they can't justify the position with logic, data, stats, etc.

I think the other reason they stall out like that is they know it's all a bunch of lies and they're worried about getting called out on the lie and goes viral on the intrawebz.
