Curious, but can an amp possibly damaged, cause clipping?

yeah, I edited my post
but I have set my amp with my dmm for 4000rms....had heating up issues and lowered it by eye, and they still warm up after about 10 minutes

would like to resolve this before throwing in my new setup and reconing over spring break
Well some subs smell a little during break in. Just depends how severe the smell is. As far as setting the amps for 4000 watts rms with your dmm..... That is a myth and I hear this a LOT. First off when you set it you set it at X volume on that tone and that means most songs aren't going to be set at the exact same mark. Also The issue with setting amps with no load and a DMM... Fact is for the math formula given(not sure exactly what it is but I have seen it floating around) it varies. For example. Say your amp does 4000 watts rms at 1 ohm. The math formula tells you if you want 4000 watts you set your amp at this voltage if you are wired at 1 ohm. Issue with this method is even when subs are wired at 1 ohm typically through musical range with imp rise you typically see 1.5 to 6 ohms. Honestly hands down the best way I have found to set any gain. Find a song that hits extremely hard. Turn it up to the level on the head unit where you would be listening to it and start turning the gain up till it quits gaining(or 3/4 whichever comes first) Then back it off a hair and call it a day

first thing i thought of was the loudness and bass boost on the HU as well, if you use an ipod make sure bass boost is off the EQ as well.
sometimes I use my ipod ....but it happens on cds as well

maybe someone local on here could give me a hand with the tuning

thats what I hear too, and I do believe what you said as well

so i need to set it by ear ha....k

how do I set it by ear tho if the subs are brand new. The copper hdc3 need a break in and I will be reconing mine along with a new 7.5 cube box tuned to 37hz

What is box tuning and what song is doing it? Are you playing way below box tuning at full tilt for 10 minutes? That could get them stinky.
If so try raising the SSF...

yeah pretty much on all rap it will, which is what I was thinking that they are playing below tuning for too long.

alot of jeezy, paul wall, ect....and they all are below my tuning mostly which is 37.77 hz

is there any way I can fix this. I see people goin around 32 hz tuning with these but heard the sub wont like it also. Not sure tho, maybe sub/port up is hurting me too in an suv...some songs dont play as well as I'd like.

In 2 weeks I will be building a box, mlstress maybe you can give me some pointers on what the hell to do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

as for the subsonic filter, what should it be on, around 38 correct?
