Curious, but can an amp possibly damaged, cause clipping?

I'm curious, if an amp that looks mint, and the board looks fine, may have something wrong with it? and can that cause clipping?

Reason why I'm tryin to track down why my hdc3's are heating up after about 10 minutes. Don't think it is the amp, but just wanted to be sure??????//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

I've tried lowering gains and voltage is good

ever consider the fact that you are trying to put out more power than the amp can actually do? thus, resulting in clipped signal?

yeah, I edited my post

but I have set my amp with my dmm for 4000rms....had heating up issues and lowered it by eye, and they still warm up after about 10 minutes

would like to resolve this before throwing in my new setup and reconing over spring break

it was just a guess, that seems about right tho, i never had the HU but dont know for sure... maybe someone else can chime in, but also its not uncommon for a speaker to get "warm".. if you start to smell them tho, then smoethings up

I have had this issue since the build...dj keeps telling me that they should not heat up at all, unless its during break it....

jbizzle plays his hdc3's off his 3000d @.5 an they dont heat up at all..he says he can play them for hours...

I would really appreciate some input tho, thanks guys

my pioneer 700 doesnt clip at 50/62 with the sub level all the way up so you should be fine.

speakers do get warm. its 4k watts. thats a lot of power. like etac said, its ok to get warm, you just dont want to smell them cooking. the point of not wanting to clip a signal is because it stops the speaker from cooling itself and will overheat and melt. so with good cooling its not going to be cold. as long as its not so hot that you cant touch it.

well I can smell the hdc3's after about 10 min...and dont like it. I try an pay real close attention to when they do start to smell

what can I do or try? And I haven't changed an sub setting thru the hu...hell I dont even think there are any

what are you running electrically?
I've 2 runs + 1/0 kicker and 1 run of ground to the rear, also grounded in the rear too

deka g34 up front, 2 g31 in the rear and 250 amp alt....deck voltage dont go below 13v at tilt with the ho alt...before the alt it would go to 12v.

first thing i thought of was the loudness and bass boost on the HU as well, if you use an ipod make sure bass boost is off the EQ as well.
