CRX Take 3

There is a difference between 100 watts clipped and 4000 watts clipped. Just because the BTL can take 10,000 watts, doesnt mean you can do it. Scott rated it at 2000 for a reason, Is it conservative, Yes...but still 4kw is double his rating. When you send a clipped signal with that much power behind it, things start heating up REAL quick...I wish you guys would get out of the science book a little, and into the real world.
Hey, guess what? That science book explains the difference between 20rms and 4000rms but it's too bad that has nothing to do with what lilmaniac2 said about his walmart amp comment.

You can blow a sub with 40 watts clipped //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
A sub rated at or around 40w...yeah. I'll put 40w full clip on a Mag all day long and it wouldnt stress at all. I put my Avalanche on 100w clipped heavily for long periods of time and it never showed any signs of stress.

You're also forgetting it's a 3 second burp and I didnt say drive the amp into a full clip. I said drive it into clipping and see what it does. If you clip it and loose or show no gains there is no point in pushing it any further.

I cant beleive there is still discussion about clipping alone blowing speakers.

That wasnt the point behind lilmac's statement. Gradualy stepping into clipping will also allow one to judge when it is getting to be too much or see if it will gain anything.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Since you are all about siecne...do this for me..
Take two Cheap-o 5.5 drivers...send on its RMS with clean power...send one its RMS with clipped power...tell me which one gets hotter faster..
The clipped will heat up slightly faster...I'm not argueing that. IT IS A 3 SECOND BURP.

lilmac, you need to realized that because you have put a number or two up on the TL that no one else can know something about getting loud. If you would discuss these sorts of subjects with people outside of your little clique instead of immedately assumeing they are wrong you may learn even more. I'm not saying I'm always right but you arent either.

I still tell you to put that $20 cheapo amp on your type R...honestly with no BS to try and prove a point to yourself. You wont blow it.

Just because you know chemistry/physics doesn't give you a hand up in the caraudio world...IT DOES NOT. Im a Mechanical Engineering student, It doesnt help. You sound JUST like kyle from TC. Its all about "theoretical issues" and what the laws of physics say.
I'm not talking about theoretical issues. I'm talking about applying physics to the real world and testing with trial and error. Physics isnt magic fairy dust taught in school to torture students.
