CRX Take 3

A square wave puts peak power to the coil for a prolonged time ( like 3x longer than a sine ) that raises the temperature much more rapidly and can lead to the coil "poping" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
ok. makes sense. basicly, the extra heat finds a weak spot and causes the coil to seperate, to "pop", correct?

So...your stating that you didn't know that Clipping would cause a rise in temperature...and that you didn't know that a rise in temperature would cause a rise in impedance, and that you didn't know, that a rise in impedance would cause a decrease in power and that you didn't know that a decrease in power would cause a decrease in SPL and that you didnt't know that a decrease in SPL would mean its quieter....

but yet, every SPL thread you post in, you are an SPL god and that knowlege of physics will help you achieve a high SPL score...it wont... a car is not a controled envioroment.
I knew all of that before you "informed" me.

I knew that a coil is rated to handle the heat generated in a certian period of time. So wether or not it happens in "Jerks" (square wave) or gradually (sine wave) wouldnt matter. Impeadance rise is not being called into the discussion here when talking about how much heat the coil can handle.

This is what I'm talking about.

Blue = 400w RMS amp black = 200w RMS amp square wave

Both have the same RMS power, but the 200w amp snaps straight to the RMS power where as the 400w amp gets their slower, then continues to rise above the RMS power and stays above it and then drops back down.

This means that the coil will be jerked back and forth (why it sounds like *** to us) or it will gradually move. Either way it is going to heat up the same ammount over time. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

THAT is my point of view.

I can understand this "pop" theory. Electronic equiptment is known for wanting to be gradually forced into work instead of shoved into it.

immacomputer.... i agree with you to a point. as long as your clipped signal is well within the sub's recommended thermal power handling, ie: a 100wrms clipped signal to a 500wrms sub, it should indeed last awhile. sound like ***, but still last awhile. and not something one should recommend to anyone. also, one could argue the extra heat caused can be dangerous to the amp as well, and lead to premature failure due to overheating. so where's the benefit in a clipped signal in any situation (other then a riff)?

Nope. I said I understand the theory. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I still stand by that a $20 walmart amp will not blow a 600w Type R.

In fact I say that as long as you stay with in the subs RMS power handleing a clipped signal will not harm it.

However I will agree that when talking about doubleing or trippleing the subs's rated power clipping could potentially be more harmful than a sine wave of the same RMS power.

I don't see what you disagree with me on. I agree with that 100%.

It seems we have all reached a point of understanding now...

Well not sure how many pictures Ill have Saturday since I got some glassing to do in my real car. My new tweeters came in and its time to glass them and the mids.
