CRX Take 3

Fryman ... knowledgeable HA

just because he uses big words doesnt make him knowledgeable...

also real world experience > what you read in a book

ask a physicist what kind of speaker enclosure would be the loudest.

9/10 say sealed boxes... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

now back to the mindless bickering

Despite what you may think, clipping is not going to increase your score.
All you are doing is getting slightly more power out the amp, but at a cost of a shitty sine wave and heating up the coils MUCH faster than they should. Clipping is not increasing your score, the boost in power is.

If you want to get more power to the sub, there are much better ways to do it.

1)Increase your voltage (i.e. adding more batteries, beefier alt, etc.)

2)Play with the gains and headunit volume to find the optimum combination

3)Get a bigger amp capable of more power. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Clipping is not the answer. bottom line.

I agree entirely.

In this instance, if he did clip the amp he could gain some. Correct? That is where this disussion started.

any power gains seen by sending the amp into clipping will be nullified by the rise in impedance that the heat causes.
No it wont.

And with that logic the impeadance rise would lower the power meaning you wouldnt gain any heat...just loost a bit of movment. In that case he would lose SPL and never look back at the subject agian.

He could gain some sure, but its not a safe way to gain a tenth of a dB or two.

There are much easier and less damaging ways to do that.

agreed.

How much clipping would be needed to see a gain? Have you done extensive tests on this?

Really that would be a good test to do. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

I'd rather not risk blowing my shit up to try and gain a tenth when i can move a box around and gain .5 instead.

And yep...he's still talkin
