Imo, best way to deal with it would just to be ignore her friend. Pretend like her friend poses no threat to you in talking to her.

I would talk to her one or two more times, just to get to know her. You have to think about it this way, you are examining her to see if she is worthy of you. So when you think she is interesting enough to go out for coffee, ask her out. If you think about it the other way around, it'll more than likely lead to disaster.
