Dunno. The concern stemmed from not knowing if there is a palm tree branch or something huge down at the bottom clogging the filtration system. I don't want to burn up the motor and other gadgets.

I do, but it isn't hooked up. I wasn't going to put holes in the roof of the rental. That will probably go in the pool table room anyhow.

That's why there's a skimmer. lol It skims the surface, while the drain @ the bottom circulates(sucks) the water down then.

Somewhere over by the equipment should be some ball valves or cut-off's with handles. OPEN them all of the way. This is to be sure that if something is blocking the drain, the skimmer will still provide the suction.
