I know for a fact that this occurs in other unionized plants. Not only that, but it is spelled out who has priority on this time. It is highly coveted by some because of the additional pay.

Lug -- I think the point is, if they where UAW workers, does GM ulitmately pay their salary or do the employees.

The employees do through the union dues they pay. If they are formans then they are paid by the company and are not unionized.

In most normal plans, the member's responsibility goes above and beyond....paying a couple hundred bucks in premium with deductibles of $2,000 or more.

Instead of a bailout, GM should be pushing for universal healthcare to get these costs off their books.

GM agreed to turn over all health care to the UAW. GM would give the UAW a billion dollars and the UAW would handle the health care and GM would wipe their hands clean of health care costs.

My dad takes like 3 vacations a year if that tells you anything. He has been with them for I believe 38 years now.

It isn't 7 weeks. It's 3 weeks of vacation time and 1 week of sick time. 2 weeks must be used during the July shutdown, so yes you can have 3 vacations.
