1) 88-98 1500 Silverago extended cab for $2500. Will run fine for 200k+ and you can easily do all the maintenance yourself.
2)90-95 Honda accord/Civic 4 banger for $2500 or less. Will get the gas mileage you need and last again for 200k+

How do you figure? At the very least he will probably pay $50 a month in extra insurance, plus whatever his state's license fees are. He won't be using the fuel efficient car all the time so you can't accurately predict gas consumption. It seems to me he would just break out even at best.
