I brought my fiance and my laptop to work. I kind of have to do this shit when the forman isn't around.
To partition and format you have to access the hdd setup screen in the XP CD. Or use some other bootable format/partition utility. Since it is your windows drive, you can't partition and manipulate it from within windows.
I was trying to do a fresh install of Windows XP. It had been giving me trouble lately so I figured I'd re-install Windows.
When I boot from disk, it asks to setup windows or repair windows. Can I do it if I hit R for repairing Windows? To partition and format you have to access the hdd setup screen in the XP CD. I don't even get that far. It has the Windows setup screen, then asks if I want to install or repair, I click install and I get that message.ok, when doing the install make sure you erase all previous partitions... you dont need the back up drives... then do NTFS quick install

Then you will need some other utility to boot from for partitioning. Since it is a lappy you more than likely dont have a floppy so using an old windows startup disk wont help unless you get a USB floppy. That hard driv is causing you some serious issues. Maybe your nicely pirated XP had a boot sector virus. I would laugh my *** off at you if it did.I don't even get that far.
