To partition and format you have to access the hdd setup screen in the XP CD. Or use some other bootable format/partition utility. Since it is your windows drive, you can't partition and manipulate it from within windows.

X2.. I use partition magic myself but let me know exactly what you are doing with it.

When I boot from disk, it asks to setup windows or repair windows. Can I do it if I hit R for repairing Windows?

ok, when doing the install make sure you erase all previous partitions... you dont need the back up drives... then do NTFS quick install
I don't even get that far. It has the Windows setup screen, then asks if I want to install or repair, I click install and I get that message.

hit setup windows and it brings you to the hdd setup screen. At this point you choose to delete any partitions. then create a new one and format it and setup windows

X2 this is what you need to do. When its on the blue install screen delete the previous partitions and install a new NTFS... quick

Then you will need some other utility to boot from for partitioning. Since it is a lappy you more than likely dont have a floppy so using an old windows startup disk wont help unless you get a USB floppy. That hard driv is causing you some serious issues. Maybe your nicely pirated XP had a boot sector virus. I would laugh my *** off at you if it did.

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
